I have always had a deep and abiding passion for aromatherapy and natural personal care products. In 1998, I co-founded Essential Wholesale, which was listed as an INC. Magazine 5000 Fastest Growing Companies in America for three years in a row. So when Keegan, my son, was recommending CBD oil, I was a little hesitant—thinking I had already seen every natural remedy under the sun—but when CBD changed my life, I knew it was going to be a revolutionary product. That is when I co-founded Ology Essentials, a Nashville based and research driven brand of high quality hemp CBD products.

Overall natural wellness is important to us at Ology Essentials. We continue to supply the research while you reap the benefits! So what is the scoop about hemp CBD? How does it work with our bodies? Well, generally we are taught about 11 systems of the human body such as the reproductive, nervous, circulatory systems, and so forth. But there is also another one called the endocannabinoid system, which has cannabinoid receptors. CBD stands for cannabidiol and hemp is rich in them. The CB1 and CB2 cannabinoid receptors in the body bind with the molecules of CBD and produce positive biological responses, namely bringing about homeostasis (balance) in all the other body systems. Yay for balance!
There are different ways you can incorporate hemp CBD into your daily routine—sublingual, ingestion or topical application. Sublingual allows for the CBD oil to be absorbed quickly and directly through the mucous membrane in the mouth, which contains capillaries that lead directly to the bloodstream. Ingestion can be through capsules or in your coffee, juice and other edibles which allows the CBD to pass through the digestive system and become metabolized by the liver. Topical products allow the CBD to be absorbed into the skin where it interacts with the CB1 and CB2 receptors in the skin and muscles. Hemp CBD creates balance in all body systems including the producing homeostasis of hormones. Research shows that the endocannabinoid system works with the gonadal hormones, which in females includes estradiol and progesterone from the ovaries.
We’ve included a free download of our Hemp CBD 101 book so you can dive deeper into the knowledge of this wonderful plant.
At Ology Essentials our hemp CBD topical products are unique—not only are you receiving the benefits of CBD, but with my background in aromatherapy and natural skincare, I’ve created a variety of blends that add increased benefits to each product. For example, I formulated a complete “She” line which includes a CBD Bath Bomb, CBD Bath and Body Oil, CBD Face and Body Lotion and CBD Deodorant formulated specifically for the mind, body and spirit of a woman. I will get more into the details of the blend and research around how this blend could potentially increase hormonal balance and fertility below.
Aromatherapy for Women
The menstrual cycle of a woman is comparable to a giant roller coaster. It brings us up and down, upside down and around again. Our hormones send us on a variety of loops that are sometimes scary and other times exciting and creative.
The female human body is so amazing that it even will tell you what it needs at any given time in your cycle by being unusually attracted to certain scents and unexplainably repulsed by others. For instance, I have never met a pregnant woman who did not find ylang ylang essential oil offensive during her early pregnancy. The hormone properties of ylang ylang are too powerful for early pregnancy and your body automatically protects itself. Most women have a heightened sense of smell during their entire pregnancy, which automatically protects the growing child inside.
On the Essential Oil University Facebook page Myth #11, Dr. Pappas puts it this way, “Our bodies generally tell us when we need something or should stay away from something, especially when it has to do with things that can harm us. In fact, the ability to smell was probably among the most valuable of senses to early humans and those who had a good nose along with the intelligence to listen to their nose had a competitive advantage for survival over those who lacked such ability. The ability to smell and know when a plant is poisonous or when food was spoiled would have been paramount to survival in early humanity.”
For more than 21 years now, I have worked with a blend of essential oils I now call the Women’s Balance essential oil blend—using clary sage (Salvia sclarea), jasmine, rose, ylang ylang, neroli, geranium, sweet fennel, lavender, along with a few other essential oils to create a magical aroma.
I have witnessed amazing transformations in women’s lives with this blend. Women of all ages have found balance with this essential oil blend. I have spoken with women who have struggled with fertility because of irregular cycles and, after using this blend, they have become regulated and even become pregnant. Due to this blend, women suffering from severe mood swings have balanced, and menopausal women have found great relief from their symptoms.
I am not a medical doctor, but I have studied essential oils extensively through many experts, through their writings, research, and one-on-one. My experiences working with oils show a correlation between particular ailments and the essential oils that help improve them.
Based on my experiences, here’s a list of some major issues and the essential oils that address them:
Aphrodisiacs: anise, cedarwood (Cedrus deodora), cinnamon, jasmine, lemon, neroli, patchouli, rose, rosewood, sandalwood, ylang ylang
PMS: bergamot, chamomile, cedarwood (Cedrus deodora), citronella, cypress, geranium, clary sage (Salvia sclarea), fennel, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, jasmine, juniper, neroli, orange, pine, ravensara, rose, sandalwood.
Hormone Havoc: bergamot, chamomile, clary sage (Salvia sclarea), fennel, geranium, lavender, ravensara, sandalwood, spearmint, ylang ylang
Endometriosis: clary sage (Salvia sclarea), cypress, eucalyptus, geranium, ravensara
Menopause: basil, bergamot, cypress, chamomile, clary sage (Salvia sclarea), fennel, geranium, jasmine, lavender, orange, sandalwood, ravensara, rose
Hot Flashes: clary sage (Salvia sclarea), chamomile, fennel, geranium, lavender, peppermint

Essential oils are powerful! So very, very potent that I must warn to absolutely never, and I mean ever, even if you read it online somewhere, should you add essential oils to a tampon, female douche or otherwise apply undiluted essential oils purposefully to the vaginal area.
Always, always, always respect the strength of essential oils by using them diluted. At Ology Essentials we harness the power of essential oils by carefully formulating our products to deliver both hemp CBD and essential oils with your safety in mind.
